A love letter to the East Village

“She said I’ll give ya shelter from the storm”

I don’t like 14th Street

But as long as I’ve been here

I’ve been by it

14th always had something to prove

To defend

Not all bad, but not home

13th didn’t care

So I set up shelter

My small existence

Content

A whisper of a presence

Between the neon signs and Tuesday trash

A life

Running up Broadway

Juggling the L to Q

I come home to at the end of the day

Going out of my way

To dodge 14th

The dreaded no man’s land between 1st and 3rd

Perhaps there is more to life than 14th Street

But odds are

It’s wrapped around it
