We often size our lives

By clocks and time

I anchor mine by avenues

And green street signs

6th Avenue:

The Great Connector

6th Ave I love you

6th Ave I hate you

6th Ave you raise me up and bring me down

Town

6th Ave you’re who

I anchor my life to

You divide

The East and West sides

Of me

I can pinpoint different aspects of who I am

In relationship to

You

It’s hard to go

31st and West of you

But the only way out (of the city)

Is through

I first met you

When I was 16

I didn’t understand who you were

I promised to find you again

Walking up and down

Years of conversations with you

An old friend

You are

A New York existence

Is inherently lonely

The marathon is every day

And you’re on your own

More often than not

To fight and carve your way

It’s the slow and steady path

Required for every mile

And it’s New York

Everyone wants first place

But in a sea of gold

Give me steel skyscrapers

Gold breaks down

Empire Steel

Only grows stronger

And from 6th Avenue bloom

The scrapes of steel skyline

6th Avenue

I love you

6th Avenue

I hate you

6th Avenue

I love you

6th Avenue

Thank you

What are we looking for? Someone to put down the phone for Someone to pick it up for Or just to not be controlled by it A light A spark...
