A beautiful life

What is a beautiful life?

How does one live well

How does one reflect satisfied

Not caught up in the wishing fell

What is a beautiful life?

Did it have fear

Did it have strife

What goes into

A trekked path through

The daunting thought

At the end of a life

Who are the ones

Who hugged and held

Waved to on the street

Patience during rush hour

Was it the one who was perfect

Perfectly in-line

Or the one

Slightly behind

The five star reviews

Sponsorship revenues

The art pieces admired

The sands of beaches walked

Mountains trekked

Cabs hailed

Trains missed

The eyes ignored

Or the eyes looked into

Listening to

Or tuning out

Muting pleas

Or present about

The bottles of wine shared with friends

Or the sober nights

(Making for easier morning light)

The ones we stayed in touch with

Or the ones we lost track of

The ones we lost

To mental health

The ones who are still here

Put the rope back on the shelf

The times we texted

But should have called

The ones we called

But should have visited

This little bit of timed life

We cannot perfect

A beautiful life:

Perhaps it’s simply

Someone who tried

To leave this world better

Than they initially find

And when we depart

Away the hurt the pain the strife

We leave the world remnants

Of the togetherness we’ve made

Remnants of

A beautiful life
