A case for the mighty penny

A penny on the walkside

Greeting me

First face of the day I see

Lucky copper coin

Worth more

Than face value may seem

A little bit of goodness

The world believing in you

Why bestow wealth

If not a reason

Destiny intended to

It is arrogant to leave

A penny on the ground

If one cannot treasure

The simplest of things

Why bestow

The more profound?

A little bit of goodness

In the form of single pence

I like to believe

One small penny

Will bloom

Future inheritance

A little bit of goodness

In the form of single pence

The special thing about pennies

Is their pure innocence

One single cent

Cannot harm

Cannot lie

They’re not dollars

Can’t cause hurt

Unjustified

A little bit of goodness

Amidst fires

Droughts

Wars

Greed

Perhaps more pennies

Is what this world needs
