Chains

The further I fly
The higher I soar
The more I realize
The chains I place
On myself restrain
It's easy to appear free
Secretly bound by chains
Such chains
Elastic at times
Steel in others
Yet bound I remain
Encaptured in my own chains
The further I fly
The higher I soar
Why I try to distract
Divert and detract
Each time I break free attempt
The chains strengthen
They remain intact
It feels
The further I fly
The higher I soar
The longer these chains grow
New links clink clink
Exhausted
Flying higher
Soaring further
With the weight of these chains
On my ankles and wrists
Fatigue
Concealing indents
What a fraud I would be
If they found out
I wasn't truly free
I just got better
At elongating these chains
And still bound I remain
I can fly high
And further I can soar
But I can't yet fly free
Adding another link
To the chains around me
