The following is a poetic trilogy: one poem comprised of 3 poems. Together, they depict the full examination:
An examination of societal acceptance of lack of follow-through.
The beginning of each poem is marked by “//“ and is meant to be read, analyzed, felt as one. Order of poems:
Street Smarts
The 21st Century Pied Piper
The Last of the Greats
//
Straight As
Straight laced
Were too busy
Out smarting books
In-stead of smarting up streets
This is the era of
Street smarts
Advanced Avenue Placement
Road roulette
Detriment drive
Actions are nice
But words
Critical vice
To a-flute affluent
Through thoroughfare influence
//
The 21st Century Pied Piper:
Move others to the side
And to your will
Submit subside
What are we alluring to lure?
Pied prize to pine?
Practice we preach?
Only preach, not practice?
The 21st Century Pied Piper:
Words are now vice
Words now pacify and suffice
Action is optional
Action is for
The Last of the Greats
//
You and I, my friend
We are the Last of the Greats
Turn water into wine
From ash, fire we make
We still lead with action
And promises kept
We said we’d do something
Follow through commitment met
The 21st Century Pied Piper:
A product of the times
Perhaps you and I will succumb too
And Action will become a memory
Who
Died in one last attempt
To follow through
In memorium:
Actions outweigh words
Words are air
What good is oxygen
Without Earth’s life to bear
The 21st Century Pied Piper:
I pity you
But worry to your fate
I might fall too
Inspired by a conversation at The Dead Rabbit
