The PTO Myth

What freedoms am I chasing?
We put upon
Our own chains
The pain of running
Trying to escape
From oneself
How needless
Why do we run away
Call it a pause
Only to return?
Life and breath
Is more than PTO
Or feigned half days
That end up whole
The idea of a “pause”
Like waves
Wanting to retire
Pausing mid-crash before hitting land
Not letting a drop touch
Taunting the sand
We are free
As much as we allow
Seeking a pause
Is to entrap
Isn’t it nice to be in a four-walled box
Cozy and confined
It’s in the no walls no fences
No pauses is there freedom
Isn’t freedom scary?
All room to run
It’s easier to curl into the self-imposed box
For stopping time is to trap
And there is no pause
No escape in this life
Why pause
Why escape
When we are free?
Being free
Doesn’t mean
There isn’t a fight
There will always be a fight
But we fight free
As much as we allow
Do I choose to fight myself
Or do I fight to remain free?
